Blue Octopus

Blue Octopus took about a year to complete. She started as drawings in a sketchpad. I transferred the outline to black silk taffeta, and the real work began.

I stitched down more than a dozen different colors of metallic “passing thread” to build the iridescent legs and some of the body. I used other types of metal embroidery wire to complete the head and body

I collected and processed more than 100 micro sand dollars, then painted them with clear glitter nail polish. I attached them to the legs with super-fine white silk.

Another dozen colors of “purl” embroidery wire got hand-cut into tiny chips and attached to fill in the space between the sand dollars.
