Tentacles

Tentacles started as a set of drawings.

Next came transferring each tentacle outline to felt.

I used several layers of felt to create a 3D effect. I sewed the felt down, then outlined it in black metallic thread. I started stitching down rows of gold metal, using black silk to create stripes on each tentacle.

After that was done, I added micro-sand dollars sewn on with hair-fine white silk.

Finally, I filled in the spaces between sand dollars with chips of black embroidery wire called “purl.”
